Korean Study Hall: Using Youtube to Get Ur Learn On

Welcome to Korean Study Hall, a wonderful gateway into my learning of the delightful Korean language. It is at this point that I would like to tell you guys that I am not a teacher, nor a scholar... Just a Korean fan trying my damnedest to learn as lazily as possible. Join me on this slow and bumpy road as I try my best to teach myself Korean.

We are the luckiest cluster of generations to have helpful and useful tools at the ready on the internet. I use Youtube for everything. From how to do a simple cat-eye to how to repair a broken iPhone screen.  So of course... I love using Youtube videos to learn Korean. You learn at a pace that is perfect for you, even if you are slow like me or a quick learner. You can press pause again and again. Or if the video is short enough you can totally re-watch it a hundred times. With absolutely no one judging you. It doesn't hurt that these videos are more fun than my books/podcasts/online classes. What can I say? I have a short attention span.

Read on for a list of my favorite Youtube Channels for practicing Korean.

Sweet and Tasty
Not only does she teach you some basics Korean phrases, she also shows you cool places in Korea like cat cafes or places where you can do traditional Hanbok photo-shoots.

Talk to Me in Korean
I found these guys from a podcast I listen to. The videos are helpful if you only have a short time to focus. Plus they do a ton of Q and A videos about culture.

Seoulistic
I found this Youtube channel by listening to the Survival Phrases-Korean podcast. The host of the podcast is also the host for most of the videos on Seoulistic. So if you watch and listen, you get to know the teams very well, which I love. I really like a lot of their videos, besides the ones that focus on language. Like this one about "sounding" Korean.

Kahori Lee
This girl is great. She makes Kpop videos with Hangul, Romanization and the translation! So if you want to memorize a song and see what it looks like in Hangul for greater practice. Bam! Do it with G-Dragon. Talk about my cup of tea.

My favs:
G-Dragon - Coup D'etat

G_Dragon - Crooked

Do you have some videos you have found incredibly helpful? I would love to know. Thanks for reading.

  1. I've been learning Korean and can read it but my vocabulary is not big yet. I think these will help when my attention is waning. Thank you!

    1. Yeah... I can't even read it yet. So i am so jealous! I mean I can read Hangul and speak it out loud... but most of it I have no idea what it says. I really do need to buckle down and study more. Thanks for the comment.

    2. It is really hard to study when there are so many distractions. I will start studying and think oh I want to write Gong Yoo's name in Hangul then write it and want to watch a clip from Coffee Prince and everything just snowballs from there. I'm not very studious.

    3. You are not alone on that. I'm pretty sure my spirit animal is Dug from Up.
