Secret Garden ... First Meeting

Meet the man of mystery...
Secret Garden opens with wealthy mogul and all around rich boy Kim Joo Won on a  blind date. It is obvious from he time that he arrives late, that he isn't going to take it the date seriously. As he and Yoon Seul walk around an art museum he discovers enough about her to know that it could never work out.
He knows that she is trying too hard, by the perfume she is wearing and that fact that she knows nothing about art (she gets the artists' name wrong). She wants love and a hot-blooded relationship. he wants compatibility and longevity. Why should he waste his time with a woman who wants something completely different from himself? Love is for fools.
There is the core of the character of Kim Joo Won. A self-righteous wealthy man, who looks down on others that carry themselves without respect and beauty. Little does he know what fate has in store for him!

I also loved the numerous jumpsuits worn by the character too.

The actor who plays Kim Joo Won is Hyun-Bin. He his most famous for his work in Ireland(2004). In which he won numerous awards and made a name for himself. He has not been in any dramas after Secret Garden. He has moved on to make major motion pictures:
Come Rain Come Shine (2011)
Tears of Africa (2010)
I am Very Happy (2009)

Enter the damsel that should be in distress.....
We meet our heroine at her job. Her job isn't what normal girls are into at all. Our first site of her is through Joo Won's eyes. He notices her strength, her beauty and her physique first. Her job? An action star/stunt woman.Think of the lady who helped Buffy look like she could really kick some ass. That's Gil Ra-im. A woman who can kick your ass. Unfortunately Joo Won believes she is the lead actress and not her double.

Even though she has all of this strength and beauty, she is still fragile and soft-spoken. She is the first to apologize and the first to stand up for you. Her heart is both broken and made of gold. You see through her tough girl exterior around episode 2.

We get to know her as she saves someone's purse from getting stolen. She also stands up for her friend when a rude customer ostracizes her.  We are keep in the dark about Gil Ra Im. What we do know: she lives with her best friend. She has no family, that we know of. She loves to workout and pushes herself to the limit over and over again. Oh yeah... she looks great in leather.

Ha Ji Won

Gil Ra Im is played by Ha Ji Won, a stunning actress that seems to be able to chameleon herself into any role. I say this because when I Googled her, I seriously hardly recognized her in most of the images I found.
If she looks familiar you may be a fan of What Happened in Bali (2004), Hwang Jin Yi (2006) or most recently The King 2 Hearts (2012).

Her movie career is going full force too.

As One (2012)
Sector 7 (2011)
Closer to Heaven (2009)
Tidal Wave (2009)

She is was even a singer back in the day. Sorry girl, I have to share it. Hahaha She looks amazing, but completely different than the Gil Ra Im I am used to.

Ha Ji Won - Home Run

The two main charters have met! You have met them! Where will the show twist and turn?

Just keeps your pants on till my next post!

  1. I like your introduction to his character. I think I've mentioned this before, Secret Garden was the drama that really cemented my love for Kdramas. Can't wait for your future reviews :)
I've been meaning to ask you, what is your opinion on the music? The song "That Man" by Hyun Bin and "That Woman" by Baek Ji Young are the ones that made me notice Korean ballads and music during a drama. I thought they were so lovely. Now I pay attention to the music almost as much as what is going on in the plot.

    1. The music had me hooked at once. I loved Oska, so I looked up all the music from the show. I am noticing more and more that if I don't like the music, I will be "eh" about the show.

You are Beautiful had me looking up all sorts of Kpop. I love Oska. I wish he could come and visit me.

  2. I can't wait til you watch the rest of this series! There were parts that made me cry I was laughing so hard. And how could I forget Joo Won's shiny tracksuits?!

    1. This is by far one of my favorite series so far. It is cracking me up left and right.

I can not forget Joo Won's tracksuits. Ever. I want one.

      We could all match!

  3. OMg! I did not know she used to sing. I'm glad she moved on.

    Those tracksuits are legend.

I wish I looked 1/5 as good in leather as her.

    1. Me too. I don't think singing was her calling. Hahahah
